Milos (the island of Aphrodite)
The island of Milos is known worldwide mainly for the fact that the statue of Aphrodite was found here, which as it is known is in the Louvre Museum in Paris. In recent years, however, Milos through tourism development has become known for its beautiful beaches, one of the best in the Cyclades, with colorful rock formations and clear blue and crystal-clear waters. You will often hear the description of Milos as the "island of colors" which is due to its volcanic origin. In 2021 it was declared the best island in the world!
It is located southwest of the Cyclades. Its population is about 5,000 inhabitants. It mainly consists of seven small villages Adamas, Plaka, Plakes, Tripiti, Triovasalos and Pera Triovasalos, Zefyria and Pollonia.
Mineral mining companies operate on the island as the ground is rich in minerals. Its surface is about 150 km2 in the shape of a horseshoe due to the large bay of Adamas, which favors the choice of a different beach depending on the wind direction. You will find more than 70 beaches, each one with its own characteristics. Some of them have pebbles, others are with crystal clear blue waters, many with golden fine sand, some other are rocky and many are organized with beach bar, sunbeds with umbrellas and taverns. The choice is yours although we suggest you see as many as possible. Your vacation in Milos will surely be unforgettable.
You can visit the island from April and May to see the island blooming and smell its aromas while exploring its wild landscapes. Of course, in the summer months you will see all the beauty and hospitality of the island and you will taste all the local cuisine. During the months of September and October the colors of the sea in combination with the beautiful sunsets and the cool breeze give Milos a peaceful atmosphere that will offer you relaxation and rest.
Do not miss the opportunity to book a tour of the island with a boat or sailing boat or even rent a boat and enjoy the incredible colors of the island on beaches where there is no other access than the sea. Blue and green, red and purple in contrast to white, pink, yellow and red rocks.
You will also have the opportunity to visit the nearby islands such as Kimolos and Polyaigos where you will be enchanted by the secluded beaches and enchanting landscapes of incomparable beauty.
You can come to Milos either by air or by boat from Piraeus (and Crete during the summer months) but also from other Cycladic islands. The options in the summer season are many and there are also high-speed ships that make your travel faster and more comfortable. Indicatively from the port of Piraeus you arrive in about 4 hours.
Arriving in Milos you will find a good transport network with which you will be able to access all the main points of the island. Finally, the options for renting a motorcycle or car are many, but make sure you book early, especially during the high season.
